Williamstown Pier Line

The Williamstown Pier Line was one of the earliest lines to be built by the government in Victoria. The line was built as a branch to another government line to Echuca and also connected to the line to Geelong.

In its early days the line was quite busy serving the Williamstown docks. Over the years the freight traffic reduced and in the late 1980s the line was truncated back to Williamstown with the track beyond and Williamstown Pier Station removed. A number of historic stone bridges remain over the line today.

Today the line is only used for passenger services to Williamstown, which are predomiantly operated as shuttles between Williamstown and Newport, with through services to Flinder Street only operating during peak periods.
